Darlene (Schwab) Hackett Obituary

Darlene (Schwab) Hackett, 78 of Arcade, NY, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, after a stay at Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility on the Dementia Unit. She was born November 17, 1946, in Buffalo, NY, to the late Richard and Lorraine Schwab.

Darlene graduated from Arcade Central School in 1965. She became a wife, mother and homemaker shortly after. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, camping and adored Elvis! She loved volunteering at the American Legion in Strykersville, and participated in Euchre tournaments in the day.

Darlene owned and operated a diner in Varysburg, N.Y. in the late 80's and worked for Acosta as a sales representative. Most will remember her for serving on one side of the Mahogany Rail, to the other side having a Busch Light over ice, throughout Wyoming County.

Her last job before retirement was an attendant at the Iron Wood Golf Course, where she met her beloved partner Ron Sobierajski. Together they enjoyed the area casino's, Rushford lake, prime rib dinners, and Wednesday Wings (often with one of the grandchildren in tow)at the VFW in Arcade. They spent 16 years in sunny Florida for the winter. She loved when the grandkids came for the night, spoiling them with her sci-fi movies, cheese balls, Pepsi and sponge candy. Many games of scat and dice games with friends, family and extended family.

Besides her companion Ron Sobierajski, of 18 years, she is survived by her daughter, Dianne (Kevin) Dzwigal of Holland and her son, the late David A. Hackett (2012) Mother-in-law to Maria Hackett (William Hoovler) of Indiana. Beloved sister to Richard (Paula) Schwab of Sardinia and Charles (Barbara) Schwab. Loving Grandmother to Bridget (Lucas) Cox, Sidney (Alex) Makowski, David, Joshua, and Marissa Hackett. She was also a Great-Grandmother to Oliver & Aurora Cox. Along with niece's, nephew's, and many dear relatives, friends and extended family.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. No prior visitation. Celebration of life to be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woman's Auxiliary of the 6 Star American Legion Post #637 in her honor. 3960 Main St. Strykersville, N.Y. 14145.
