David R. Schumann passed peacefully surrounded by his family on December 8, 2025, at age 64, after a sudden onset of cancer. David was predeceased by his parents Joseph & Eleanore Schumann and brother, Erich.
He is survived by his wife Julia (Staley) Schumann and children Matthew, Trevor (Ariana), Ryan; as well as his brothers, Kurt (Ann Marie) Schumann, Christian (Beth) Schumann, Paul Schumann, and Peter Schumann; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends we consider family.
David graduated from Union College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as an engineer for Delphi Automotive for over 30 years. He was as resourceful as he was skilled and there was nothing he could not fix.
David had a lifelong passion for lacrosse. When it came time for his sons to play, he helped found Spencerport Youth Lacrosse. He coached and held all players to the highest level of sportsmanship. He exemplified his mantra; ‘gracious in victory, humble in defeat.’ At the end of a game, he always ensured opponents were honored with a handshake. When his playing and coaching days were over, he began to referee throughout Section V.
David also enjoyed drinking (and riding) with the Can-ale Bike Club; fly-fishing and loved to share a stream with fellow anglers. A devoted husband and father, David always kept his lines tight and his heart open. David Schumann truly was a ‘fisher of men.’ He will be loved, missed, and remains eternally proud of his three sons.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in David's memory to one of the many causes he supported: A blood donation to the American Red Cross, financial donations to NPR or the American Cancer Society.
A celebration of life to be held at a later date.
