Dr. Lawrence “Larry” A. Coon

Dr. Lawrence "Larry" A. Coon, a beloved member of the Rochester community, passed away on April 26, 2024, in Rochester, NY. He was born on February 15, 1937, in Rochester.

Dr. Coon, a distinguished Professor Emeritus at Rochester Institute of Technology, dedicated his life to academia, holding a Ph.D. in Mathematics and a Master's in Computer Science. His passion for teaching and mentoring students left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Larry found joy in woodworking, cabinetry, and playing and modifying video games. His creativity and skill were evident in all his hobbies, bringing happiness to those around him.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Carol Crowley; son-in-law Robert Crowley, and grandsons Daniel, Alexander, and James. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Trautman Coon.

Dr. Lawrence Coon will be remembered for his intellect, kindness, and dedication to his family and students. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
