Duane Alan Engle Obituary

Age 75, Holley, NY.  Duane passed away on April 1, 2026.  Born on November 5, 1950, in Batavia, NY (on his sister Sheila’s 4th birthday), Duane is predeceased by his parents John and Betty Engle; infant grandson Allen William; son-in-law Lee Elwell; and brothers-in-law Len Siebert and Donald Narburgh. Duane was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Duane graduated from Albion High School, Class of 1968 and enlisted in the Navy in 1969.  In 1970 he was assigned to the USS Proteus stationed in Guam.  He then served a tour of duty on the USS John F. Kennedy in the middle east during the middle east crisis between December 1972 -November 1973 with an honorable discharge.

He worked as a CNC machinist for over 40 years. He loved golf (hoping to beat his brother Bobby, friend Steve Thomas and son-in-law Matt), bowling, grilling in the summer, was an amazing wedding photographer, he was an avid Broncos, Sabres and Yankees Fan. Duane loved hunting with the guys and his grandson, Gatlin. He was the best girl dad and granddad of them all. He never missed his girl's softball games (because he was the coach) dance recital, cheer competition or chorus concert.  He even enjoyed nail painting with his granddaughters.

Duane was a devoted husband to his wife Sharon of 53 years.  The two shared a love story that started in high school and took them to California, where they were married.  They lived in Vallejo until October 1972.  The two started a family in Albion, NY where they raised their two daughters Sarah Beth and Dana Catherine.  Throughout the years they were blessed with several grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his loving wife Sharon; daughter Sarah (Matt) Ashe; daughter Dana (Mike Drake) Elwell; sister Sheila Narburgh; brother Denny (Diane) Snook; brother Robert (Carol) Engle; sister-in-law Lois Seibert; sister-in-law Carol (Dick) Hamilton; grandchildren Gatlin, Makenzie (Damion Burchard), Madison and Paige (Nick Schucker) Ashe, Ryan Harner, Lexy Harner, Hannah Elwell and Caden Elwell; great-granddaughter Anamarise Amelia Burchard; several nieces; nephews; cousins; friends and pals.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 6, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM at Victory Church, 32 Wildbriar Rd, Rochester, NY 14623.
