Joseph “Joe” Arthur McAuley, 74, of West Almond, NY passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Strong Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
Born on November 29, 1949, in Albany, NY to the late Arthur J. McAuley and Eileen Grady McAuley. In his youth, he had a knack for adventure and was known for his dance moves. After graduating high school, he entered the police academy and became a patrolman with the Albany Police Department. While there he gained notoriety for walking the beat with his pet lion.His law enforcement career also included time as the Chief of Police in Hunter Mountain, NY, and as a correctional officer at Marcy Correctional Facility. He always enjoyed a poker game and going to the casino and after retiring from public servicefound a second career as a table games dealer at casinos in New York and West Virginia, always working alongside his daughter Josey.
He is survived by three daughters, Amy McAuley of Clearwater, FL, Jodi Bracci of Largo, FL, and Josey (Sean) Kelley of West Almond, NY; nine grandchildren Bryson, Gabrielle, Connor, Meara, Christina, Tristan, Asher, Silas, and Sawyer; one great-grandchild Bryson Jr; four sisters Marcia (Robert) Poole, Joan (Richard) Eck, Patricia (Joel) Trombley, and Kathleen (Chris) McAuley; 1 brother; Robert (Linda) McAuley; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years Evelyn and his son James.
