It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Kathryn “Kathy” Talbott (née Wilson), of Arkansas City, Kansas, at the age of 67. Kathy passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Rochester, New York with her family by her side.
Kathy was born on September 24, 1957, in Arkansas City to Duana and Robert Wilson. She grew up as the spirited middle child of three - an identity she embraced with the perfect mix of mischievousness and charm. She attended Wichita State University, where she earned both a Bachelors and Masters degree in childhood education. There, she met Charles “Pat” Talbott, whom she married in 1983. Together, they had two children, Kari in 1986, and Kori in 1988, before they separated in 2004 after more than 20 years of marriage.
Kathy was a devoted educator, who spent her entire career teaching young children in Colorado and Kansas. Her classroom was a place of deep learning, creativity, and a little bit of chaos. She was a passionate teacher, and her students were challenged and loved. Her daughters have fond memories of spending countless nights and weekends with her at school, long after the workday officially ended.
As a parent, Kathy was deeply empathetic and unflinchingly honest. She shared laughter, perspective, and the occasional unsolicited opinion with her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and anyone else lucky enough to know her.
Kathy’s care and compassion didn’t stop with humans. She had an undeniable soft spot for misfit animals - scrappy cats, stubborn dogs, and any creature with “too much” personality. That love for animals was contagious, and now her children and grandchildren carry on the tradition, surrounded by pets with the same unruly charm.
Kathy is survived by her daughters, Kari Talbott (and husband Jonathan Pinto), and Kori Truono; grandchildren Teagan Truono and Rowan Truono; brother Bert Wilson (and wife Cheryl); sister Becky Spinden (and husband Sam), and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert “Bob” Wilson and Duana (Bryant) Wilson, and many beloved pets.
The family also wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Jewish Home, including her bestie Queen, Rose, and Laura, who shared laughter, companionship and countless inside jokes. Even in her final chapter, Kathy was exactly herself - irreverent, generous, and entirely unforgettable.
A private celebration will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Kathy’s name to provide school supplies and other support to children through the Shawnee Mission Cares Fund at the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation, or to provide supplies and care to little hellions across the Midwest through the Chihuahua Rescue.
