Mark Waterstradt

Mark Waterstradt, 49, passed away unexpectedly on January 26, 2026, in Rochester, New York where he had moved in May 2025 to find new adventures with his sister and her wife. Born on April 3, 1976, in Mesa, Arizona, Mark brought joy and light to those around him throughout his life.

Mark was the beloved son of Lawrence (Larry) and Sharon Waterstradt. He is also survived by his sister Renee Waterstradt and her wife Stephanie, as well as his nephew Thomas Waterstradt and his wife Cienna and their daughter Gabriella, and more close friends that he considered family than can be named here. Mark was predeceased by his maternal grandparents George (Happy) and Viola Surprise and his paternal grandparents Daniel and Frieda Waterstradt. 

Mark found joy in a variety of music, across genres and styles. He especially loved musicals such as *Hamilton*, *Rent*, and *Wicked*, along with artists like Billy Joel, Josh Groban, and Counting Crows. It wasn’t unusual to hear him singing Christmas music in July or whenever it popped up on his shuffled playlist. His love for music found him singing at parties with friends or taking the stage at karaoke nights, where his voice and enthusiasm were sure to bring a smile to everyone there. Music reflected his appreciation for storytelling and his ability to find the fun in both the grand performances of life and its quieter moments.

Known for his vibrant personality, Mark had a presence that could fill any room. Always ready with a song or a smile, he was someone who could be counted on for laughter and warmth. Never late for anything and always up for an adventure, he brought energy and positivity wherever he went. Those who knew him will forever remember his contagious smile and spirited nature.

Gone far too soon, Mark leaves behind a legacy of love, music, and unforgettable memories. May his memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know him. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church 1124 N 3rd St, Phoenix, AZ 85004.
