Thomas Michael Olevano, 56, of Binghamton, passed away June 20, 2025, in Rochester with family by his side. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Donna (Wheeland) Olevano and Armand Olevano Jr. He is survived by a sister, Sharon Olevano, stepmother Barbara (Carden) Olevano, stepsisters Annette (Tim) McDaniels and Nicole (Greg) Derick, aunts Anne-Louise (Octavio) Chirino, Joyce (Gary) Brew, uncle Daniel Wheeland, nieces, nephews, and several cousins.
Tom never met a stranger, and among his many friends he is also survived by those especially close to him, Amanda Jones, DeeDee Cich, Laura and Paul Doane and Bill and Lois Wilson.
Tom was a kind, thoughtful, generous person who cared deeply for his family and friends, willing to give the proverbial “shirt off his back” to just about anyone who needed it.
A lifelong learner, he graduated from Vestal Senior High School and attended Broome Community College where he participated in many activities including the Ecology Club and the Lambda Society. Tom loved good food, movies and music and had a good sense of humor. He was a huge fan of writer David Sedaris, actress-writer Carrie Fisher, Lily Tomlin, musicians Billy Joel, Elton John, Cyndi Lauper and others. Star Wars, Disney films, the Wizard of Oz and the Rocky Horror Picture Show were among his favorites and he never tired of discussions revolving around movies and music. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am Saturday, August 9, 2025, at United Presbyterian Church, 42 Chenango St., Binghamton where the family will receive friends and share memories of a life well-lived.
Tom was ever appreciative of the kindness shown him by others; please honor his memory by engaging in an act of kindness and generosity towards someone, as the smallest gesture can change a life in a single moment.
